FIRST Joins the Coalition’s Leadership Council

We are pleased to welcome FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) to the Coalition’s Leadership Council. FIRST was founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989 as a means to show students of every age that science, technology, and problem-solving are not only fun and rewarding, but are proven paths to successful careers and a bright future for us all. FIRST’s mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. From its beginnings FIRST has grown enormously to become a nationally-recognized leader in promoting STEM education through programs such as its massive annual FIRST Robotics competition. Last year alone over 400,000 students participated in FIRST activities throughout the country.
