3. Cong. Vernon J. Ehlers (R-MI), a leading proponent of science education in Congress, will the keynote speaker for Building Biotech Bridges, a conference that offers a comprehensive look at how the biotechnology and education communities work together around the country to address life science education and workforce development needs. More information attached.
Finally, a reminder that the letter to President Obama with groups interested in being involved in a national effort to build partnerships between educators and STEM professionals will absolutely close on Friday, October 23rd. The current letter as of today at 11:15 with current signatories is attached, as is the email that went out on October 15 explaining this intiative.

Duncan Presentation to PCAST on Friday, Oct. 23 To be LiveStream
We in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy wanted to let you know that Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be making remarks on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education on Friday at a meeting of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Given the great importance this administration places on STEM education as we build a new economy for the 21st Century, the White House is going to live-stream this 45-minute talk.

The National Medal of Science is the highest honor the President bestows on scientists – help recognize the contributions of your colleagues by submitting a nomination for this prestigious award.
Nominations must include the nomination itself and three references, and be submitted by November 5, 2009. These items must be received via the National Science Foundation’s FastLane system at https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/honawards/.
The National Medal of Science was established in 1959 as a Presidential Award to be given to individuals deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the chemical, physical, biological, social or behavioral sciences, mathematics, or engineering. Since its establishment, the National Medal of Science has been awarded to 458 distinguished scientists and engineers whose careers spanned decades of research and development.
