ESEA; Computer Science Education Week; BRT Workforce Report
Greetings STEM Ed Coalition members. A few items of interest today: 1. Elementary and Secondary Education Act: As you know Secretary Duncan is on a “NCLB Listening and Learning Tour” across the country to hear from parents, teachers, students, citizens, and others about the No Child Left Behind Act and education reform. According to ED Week reporter Alyson Klein, in her blog yesterday, “The U.S. Department of Education is shopping an Elementary and Secondary Education Act PowerPoint presentation to congressional aides this week, meant to lay out broad principles for renewing the law, now known as the No Child Left Behind Act . . . And if you take a look at the presentation, the broad principles are, well, pretty broad. There doesn’t seem to be much in there that folks who are following Race to the Top Fund and other major Obama administration initiatives wouldn’t have guessed. Does that mean the department’s still got a ways to go on the details?” The powerpoint is attached (fyi, this is the powerpoint that Chris Gaston from Rep. Holt’s office mentioned yesterday at the meeting) 2. Computer Science Education Week is next week. Learn more in the attached email. 3.
