Coalition Issues Statement in Strong Support of Common Standards

May 22, 2014

Washington, DC:  The STEM Education Coalition issued a statement today in support of the Common Core Standards for Mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards.

“The extensive adoption by the states of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and Next Generation Science Standards provides an enormous opportunity for systemic improvement in mathematics and science education in the United States” said the Coalition.   “These new standards have been developed through a lengthy collaboration between state leaders and STEM stakeholders.  More importantly, they offer a means to develop more rigorous, focused, and coherent mathematics and science curricula, as well as instructional materials and assessments that will help promote conceptual understanding and reasoning while also developing specific skills.”
