Sign on Letter to PCAST; National Lab Day

Greetings STEM Education Coalition Members!

Two items of interest today, first:

National Lab Day: Take a look at the fantastic YouTube video below created specifically for the STEM community. The video does a great job of explaining NLD and includes clips from President Obama and OSTP Director John Holdren.

We now have 1200 scientists/engineers/mathematicians registered for NLD, and WE NEED MORE. We urge you to link to the video below and send this information out to your members, listservs, and via your other communication channels.

Visit the NLD website at www.nationallabday.org

Also attached please find a letter from the heads of ACS and NSTA to their respective members that you can adapt/use in your NLD communications.

PCAST: As you will recall on October 23, 2009 a meeting of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) focused on STEM education. In the next few weeks a PCAST-formed subcommittee will be developing then issuing a report to President Obama on STEM education (more on PCAST is below)

The STEM Ed Coalition Legislative Task Force has developed the attached letter to the PCAST co chairs asking them to consider several key principles in their report to President Obama. The three page letter is followed by a longer white paper which further explains the rationale behind the recommendations. If your organization would like to sign on to this letter please let either James or I know by March 2, 2010.

Cheers

James and Jodi
