K-12 STEM Education Survey; January 28 meeting; Hill event on Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood

Greetings STEM Education Coalition members!

Good Monday morning.  A great deal of information today, first:

Please see the attached message from Bess Caughran, professional staff with the House Science and Technology Committee Subcommittee on Research and Science Education. The S&T Committee is beginning work to reauthorize America Competes later this spring and is seeking input from the STEM community. This is an invaluable opportunity to provide input to the S&T Committee prior to reauthorization of the Competes act; please remember to keep your answers short and to send the information directly to Bess.

Second, take a look at the Tom Friedman column in yesterday’s NY Times on innovation, great mention of National lab Day. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/24/opinion/24friedman.html

Third, just a quick reminder that our monthly meeting will  be this Thursday, January 28 starting at 10:30 at the American Chemical Society offices, 1155 16th St. NW Washington, DC. We hope that you can join us in person, if not here is the call in information: 1-888-206-2266 code is 1022283.

And finally, please find an invitation to a Hill event on Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and The National Academies, in conjunction with the House Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Caucus on Wednesday, Jan. 27,  12:00 – 1:30 p.m.in B-338 Rayburn House Office Building.
